Youth is Proud to Serve
The Department of Provincial and Local Government (DPLG) through the National Youth Service (NYS) identified Madibeng Local Municipality as the ideal location in the North West Province to host the “Proud to Serve” Campaign. This campaign aspires to rally young people countrywide to serve their communities voluntarily with pride.
The youth of Majakaneng on Monday, 16 February 2009 realised this vision as they answered the municipal call to offer their time, resources and hands to the cleaning and renovation of the Majakaneng Community Hall. It was not all work for the young people as they were honoured by the presence of the Executive Mayor, Cllr Sophie Molokoane-Machika and the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Molefi Sefularo who both encouraged the audience to make heard their voices and shape their future by casting their votes on Wednesday, 22 April.
“We are as government, in all three spheres very much impressed by your positive response and the selflessness you have demonstrated in seeing to it that challenges faced by this community are addressed”, said the Deputy Minister during his address to the audience of more than sixty volunteers.
Other challenges this program looks out to address include littering, violence, floods information gaps and road facilities.
More municipal youth projects in other areas of Madibeng will unfold as the year progresses and young people who seek more information or wish to contribute towards the development of their communities can contact the Office of the Executive Mayor’s Special Programs Unit on 012 318 9242. |
