Madibeng is characterised by a variety of fertile soil types, pleasant climate and numerous water sources. As a result of these favorable conditions, the area is suitable for producing a variety of agricultural products. Another great advantage for agricultural activities is that the area is part of one of the largest irrigation schemes in the country.

 

Irrigated vegetable farmlands cover about 130km2 around Brits, with canalized water from the Haartbeespoortdam. Approximately 18 000ha of land is under irrigation with about 16 000ha from the Haartbeespoortdam Irrigation Scheme and 4 000ha from he Crocodile River (Beestekraal/Atlanta Area).

 

Farm sizes in the area vary between 11ha and 200+ha and consist of dry and irrigated agricultural practices, tunnel production, shade netting, and organic farming. The larger commercial farms in the area are primarily specialist groups in the production of vegetables fro the Gauteng and surrounding markets. Investment opportunities in this sector include:
